About Us
Join an experiment in book publishing started by Prof. Lionel Bascom at Western Connecticut State University that has the sole purpose of connecting serious writers to mainstream publishers interested in seeing and publishing new work.
We seek writers who can complete book length works and mainstream publishing houses whose editors can demonstrate they have a clear eyed ability to recognize the talents we will feature on this blog regularly. Our writers tell stories and are interested in being paid well to do this. We will not tolerate or post the nattering of novices who just want to vent or see their darling little names in print.
The editors we seek are able to buy new work through our online agency. We’ll consider work in any genre and will feature a wide array of properties that are all for sale to publishing houses willing to pay standard advances against royalties. We hope to attract the most promising new writing, social commentary, reporting, stories, creative nonfiction, journalism, collections, biographies, memoirs, even collections of poems we like. Like Ebay, Google, Craigslist, we are a business too and will not stay in business long if we do not put up the best long and short fiction out there. So shower us with your most audacious plots, reporting and the kind of visionary commentary I often see in the work that passes my way.
There’s the coffee barrister’s novel I sampled recently that chocked full of social commentary from quick witted fast-food worker who will not speak English but prefers to torture the Star Bucks gentry with her own brand of fastfood-speak.
And, there’s the piece called “Stranger with My Eyes,” a searing coming-of-age story written by a young woman heartbroken over the unrequited relationship she never had with a long-gone dad.
We will consider work in any genre.
No writer is too new, no work too daring for us to at least sample.
We do not feature experimental works that are just quirky but lack commercial appeal. We have a down-to-earth belief that writing is a business and writers should be paid for daring to participate in this risky business of publishing.
So join our collaboration. We are a literary agency. Send us new romance, erotica, literary fiction, commentary, sci-fi, western, short stories and The World Book Project will consider serializing the work of writers in search of an audience. Submit a summary of the work, tell us how many essays, chapters or poems you are selling, then offer a sample. Submissions accepted will be assigned a screen name and The Project will post submissions each month. We solicit publishers to view our site regularly. If a work first posted here is of interest to editors, editors can email me and I’ll broker the deal. We take a standard %15 commission but ask writers to sign an exclusive agency contract only after we’ve been asked to forward a manuscript to the editors we solicit.
Yes, Yes, a thousand times yes. Its long over do. Literary agents and editors have been gatekeepers for too long. Lets collaborate for a change.

Literary agents and editors who are also tried of the old guard preventing them from acquiring good work are welcome to join us. Our goal is to see that the cream rises, no light weights please … a free market place is where bestsellers are made, reader-driven demand, not marketing marvels.
